Allen Churning was looking to make a change about five years ago and happened upon an advertisement for a crude driver position with Dupré Logistics. What first was a matter of convenience and a way for Allen to provide for his family has turned into love and desire to help those in most need.

A year and a half ago, Allen and his wife, Ana, were talking to some of her relatives in Mexico and were made aware of some of their community needs, including Project Mexico in Monclova, Coah., Mexico. Two churches, Templo Bethel and Cristo La Roca, were working hard to feed and support children in need of a hot meal and school uniforms. This initial inquiry has turned into a life’s passion for Allen and Ana, helping to serve more children and more families than the Churnings ever thought possible.

With the help of Oak Hill Community Church in their hometown of Floresville, TX, the Churnings have adopted two congregations in Monclova. In a mere eighteen months, they have since worked year round to help coordinate school supply and Christmas gift drives, send uniforms, provide money for infrastructure renovations and even visited Monclova themselves to deliver and serve those in need. One particular project near and dear to the Churnings was a classroom that did not have a roof.

The Churnings were able to provide the funds necessary to build the roof for the classroom, helping to greatly impact the educational opportunities of their mission families. Allen and wife Ana have one child, Joshua. Joshua is 24 years old and is an alumnusof Texas A&M University, currently working as a software engineer for GM. The Churnings credit their son’s educational opportunities for providing him and his fiancée with a strong and promising future. The strong value Allen places on education, along with his gratitude to Dupré for employment, help to make the Churnings a voice of the people of Monclova.

“If we supply the churches, we know they can and will do more. We have been down on our luck in the past, and this is our way of paying it forward. You can’t out give God. We are just doing what we can,” says Allen.
